Lionel Messi continued his sensational run in Major League Soccer by scoring twice and guiding Inter Miami to a 2-1 away victory over the New England Revolution on Wednesday night.
With this performance, Messi etched his name in MLS history, becoming the first player to score multiple goals in four consecutive league matches, all victories.
The opener came in the 27th minute as Messi seized on a defensive miscue inside New England’s box, intercepting a loose header and rifling it past goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic. Just eleven minutes later, a sublime pass from Sergio Busquets cut through defenders and met Messi’s perfect run. The Argentine icon placed the ball just inside the far post, notching his 14th league goal of the season and his 20th across all competitions.
New England responded in the 79th minute through Carles Gil, who drilled a low shot beyond Miami keeper Oscar Ustari, cutting the deficit in half. Despite late pressure, Miami’s defence held firm through regulation and stoppage time to secure all three points.
The win propels Inter Miami to fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 35 points, while New England continues its winless streak, slipping to 11th. Messi now trails only Nashville’s Sam Surridge in the MLS goal-scoring charts.
With Miami set to host Nashville SC next, all eyes remain on Messi, whose impact has transformed the team’s trajectory.
