A Maoist couple surrendered before the police at the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.
The duo, identified as Raising Kometi and Punaya Achala, had been active members of the Maoist organisation for several years.
The surrender took place at the Kondagaon Police Office, where the couple presented themselves before SP Y. Akshay Kumar. According to police sources, the couple had been involved in multiple violent incidents linked to Maoist activities. However, with the weakening of the Maoist organisation and a shift in ideology, they decided to abandon their past and embrace a normal life.
Under the surrender policy, both individuals have been granted ₹50,000 as an incentive, with assurances of further government support, including rehabilitation and employment opportunities. The police have stated that additional benefits will be provided in the coming days to help them reintegrate into society.
This surrender marks another step in the government’s ongoing efforts to curb Maoist influence and encourage militants to return to mainstream life.
