Sundergarh: A 55-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Manjanmati village under Tanagarpalli block in Sundegrah district late last night. The deceased has been identified as Dhananjay Ganju.
According to reports, a wild elephant had entered the village and went on a rampage destroying many houses. Meanwhile, the pachyderm attacked a family and trampled Dhananjay to death.
Later, this morning, Sundergarh MLA Kusum Tete reached the spot and expressed his deep condolences to the family and also asked the administration for compensation.
Meanwhile, the body was handed over to the family members after post-mortem.
On the other hand, forest department office handed Rs 10,000 to the family for performing the last rite of the deceased.
