A tragic incident unfolded in the village of Trutiyapada under the Bolagarh police station jurisdiction in Khurda district, where a violent confrontation between two individuals led to a deadly attack.

The assault carried out with a lethal weapon, resulted in the death of one person, while the victim’s son sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. The deceased has been identified as Pratap Kumar Sethi (47), a resident of Trutiyapada village, and the injured individual is his son, Rasananda Sethi (25).

According to reports, the incident stemmed from a heated argument between Pratap and a fellow villager, Siddhant Behera, over alleged caste-based remarks. The altercation escalated when Siddhant, along with an accomplice, attacked Pratap and Rasananda with a deadly weapon. Pratap succumbed to his injuries at the Bolagarh Community Health Centre, while Rasananda, who was severely injured, is receiving medical treatment. Following a complaint lodged by Pratap’s wife, Beenapani Sethi, the Bolagarh police registered a case (86/25) and initiated an investigation.

Bolagarh police station Inspector Snigdhamayee Baral confirmed the details of the incident, stating that the attack was triggered by a verbal dispute involving caste-based slurs. “The accused, Siddhant Behera, and his associate attacked Pratap and his son with a lethal weapon, leading to Pratap’s death and Rasananda’s critical condition,” Baral said. She added that the police have seized Pratap’s body for a post-mortem examination and ensured that Rasananda was promptly shifted to a medical facility for treatment.

Khordha Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nihar Ranjan Pradhan visited the Bolagarh police station to oversee the investigation. While the accused, Siddhant and his accomplice, fled the scene after the attack, the police have detained members of Siddhant’s family for questioning as part of their probe. Efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover further details surrounding the incident.

This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the Trutiyapada village. The Bolagarh police have assured the public that they are taking all necessary steps to ensure justice for the victims and their families.
