CINEDUST 18 FILMS PVT. LTD., helmed by producer Sahil Seth, has announced a bold new cinematic venture titled Malegaon Files, with acclaimed director Rajiv S Ruia at the helm.
Based on the tragic 2008 Malegaon bomb blast, the film is set to unravel one of the nation’s most politically charged terror cases.
The 2008 blast, which shook the town of Malegaon on September 29th, claimed six lives and left more than 100 injured. What began as an investigation into Islamist groups eventually took a controversial turn with the implication of Hindu extremist figures—a shift that led to intense scrutiny and debate around the concept of “Hindutva terrorism.”
Speaking on the emotional gravity of the film, director Rajiv S Ruia stated, “This is not just about a blast; it’s about the aftermath—the pain, the legal chaos, and the human stories that emerged from the shadows.”
Seth emphasised the project’s integrity: “We’re committed to telling the story with authenticity and neutrality. The aim is not sensationalism but reflection.”
Currently in the pre-production stage, the film’s script is being crafted with reference to court documents, investigative reports, and real-life testimonies. The crew is expected to be finalised soon, and the film will go on floors by the end of 2025.
With the rise of true crime narratives in Indian cinema, Malegaon Files promises to contribute a deeply introspective addition to the genre—blending real events, emotional resonance, and investigative rigour.
