Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly that discussions with the Chhattisgarh government over the Mahanadi water dispute remain ongoing through ministerial-level committees.

He stated that three secretary-level meetings have already taken place in New Delhi, along with eleven joint technical committee meetings. Responding to questions from legislators Ranendra Pratap Swain and Arun Kumar Sahu, the Chief Minister emphasised that both states are engaging with a positive outlook while the matter remains under consideration before the tribunal.

Majhi explained that Odisha has constituted a technical committee and continues dialogue with Chhattisgarh through ministerial-level mechanisms. He stressed that the government recognises the importance of the issue and is committed to finding a resolution.

On the question of water distribution, the Chief Minister noted that discussions with Chhattisgarh are still in progress. Since the matter is sub judice, precise data on the impact of water sharing on agriculture and other sectors for the 2025–26 rabi season cannot be presented. However, he highlighted that since 2024, the state government has taken multiple steps to address the stalemate.

Majhi reiterated that the Mahanadi is Odisha’s lifeline, and the government treats the dispute with utmost seriousness, continuing efforts to safeguard the state’s water interests.
