The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the well-marked low-pressure system over south coastal Odisha has weakened into a low-pressure area, now lying over South Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh as of 5:30 am today.
The system is expected to move west-northwestwards across Chhattisgarh within the next 24 hours, according to the regional weather office.
Despite weakening, the IMD has sounded an orange warning for Malkangiri district, predicting heavy rainfall in several areas today.
A yellow warning has also been issued for Koraput, Nabarangapur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri, where heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are also forecast for Rayagada, Nuapada, Balangir, and nearby regions.
The weather department has further extended the yellow warning for possible heavy rain and thunderstorms in different parts of Odisha until August 31, urging residents to remain alert and follow safety advisories.
