In a scathing critique of the ruling BJP government, BJD president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has condemned the recent gang rape of a 17-year-old girl at a hotel in Bhubaneswar, describing it as a “barbaric” act that underscores the administration’s failure to ensure women’s safety.
The incident, which occurred on December 19, has sparked widespread outrage and intensified calls for accountability amid a reported spike in crimes against women since the BJP took power in June 2024.
Patnaik, in a post on X, linked the assault to a broader pattern of violence, referencing a prior gang rape on December 10 along the Dhauli riverbank. “This barbaric incident is a stark reminder of the deteriorating law and order situation under the current regime,” Patnaik stated, urging immediate action to protect vulnerable citizens.
