The Lingaraj Temple Road Railway Station in Bhubaneswar is undergoing a significant transformation under a Rs 19.53 crore redevelopment initiative aimed at boosting passenger convenience and supporting the growing number of commuters and pilgrims visiting the iconic Lingaraj Temple.
As part of the station’s upgrade, a new G+2 building will be constructed across 765 square metres, while the existing 1100 square metre frontage will be completely revamped to align with modern infrastructure standards.
Planned enhancements include:
- A 12-metre-wide foot overbridge to improve inter-platform movement
- Dedicated parking areas for two- and three-wheelers
- A 130 sq.m. air-conditioned waiting lounge for added passenger comfort
- Modern modular toilets
- Platforms paved with granite and mosaic tiles
- A new cafeteria and commercial zone
- 29 additional platform shelter bays
- Upgraded digital display systems for train and coach information
Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, who recently inspected the redevelopment work, announced that the revamped station is expected to be completed and inaugurated by October 31, 2025. The project is being executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways.
This overhaul comes as Bhubaneswar continues its urban expansion, with a sharp rise in both local commuters and temple-bound tourists, making the station’s modernization a timely and much-needed move.
