Renowned Mexican wrestler Rey Misterio Sr, uncle of WWE superstar and Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio Jr, has died at the age of 66.
The wrestling legend, real name Miguel Angel Lopez Dias, is also the great uncle of WWE superstar Dominik Mysterio and starred in multiple Mexican promotions, including the World Wrestling Association.
He debuted in January 1976, and, throughout his career, wrestled for the likes of Pro Wrestling Revolution, Tijuana Wrestling and World Wrestling Association.
To distinguish the star from his nephew, he was often referred to as Rey Mysterio Snr, with Dominik his grand nephew. His grand niece, Aalyah, has also appeared in WWE on a number of occasions.
He won the WWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship once and also earned the WWA Tag Team Championship with Rey Mysterio Jr. as well.
This tragic news comes mere weeks after the loss of Roberto Gutierrez, Rey Mysterio Jr.’s father and Dominik’s grandfather, who passed away on Nov. 17 at the age of 76.
