Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, announced her decision to quit politics and sever ties with her family.
She made the declaration on X (formerly Twitter) a day after the RJD suffered a crushing defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections.
Acharya stated that she took the step on the advice of RJD rebel Sanjay Yadav and her husband Rameez Alam. In her post, she wrote: “I’m quitting politics, and I’m disowning my family. This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do, and I’m taking all the blame.”
A doctor by profession, Rohini Acharya had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Bihar’s Saran constituency but lost to the BJP’s Rajeev Pratap Rudy by a wide margin. Her exit marks another blow to the RJD, which is already grappling with internal divisions.
This announcement comes months after Lalu Yadav disowned his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav and expelled him from the party. Tej Pratap had publicly declared his relationship with Anushka Yadav while his divorce case was still pending, sparking controversy. Although he later claimed his account was hacked, the damage had already escalated tensions within the family.
Lalu Prasad Yadav reacted strongly at the time, expelling Tej Pratap from the RJD for six years and cutting personal ties, calling his actions irresponsible and against family values. With Rohini’s departure, the Yadav family feud has deepened further, raising questions about the future of the party’s leadership.
