New Delhi:Â The Supreme Court on Monday canceled the bail of accused Ashish Mishra in Lakhimpur Kheri violence case and asked him to surrender within a week.
Ashish Mishra is the son of union minister Ajay Mishra who has been facing attacks from the opposition since last year over the incident. In February, the Allahabad High Court had granted bail to Ashish, nearly four months after he was arrested.
The apex court had earlier raised questions over the Allahabad High Court verdict granting bail to Ashish Mishra, saying unnecessary details like postmortem report and nature of wounds should not have gone into when the trial was yet to commence.
The top court said HC also erred by not giving an opportunity to complainant to argue and oppose bail.
The top court on April 4 had reserved its order on a plea of farmers seeking cancellation of bail to Ashish Mishra.
