Wayanad: The body of one of the two Odia doctors missing after the Wayanad landslide in Kerala has been recovered, announced Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Dr Bishnu Prasad Chinara, while the other doctor, Dr Swadhin Panda, remains missing.
“The body is suspected to be of Dr. Bishnu Prasad Chinara. Once identification and formalities are complete, arrangements will be made to bring the body back to Odisha,” Pujari stated.
Pujari also mentioned that two doctors from Odisha had been sent to Kerala for the identification process. He clarified that there had been no confirmation of Dr Bishnu Prasad’s death from his family and that another doctor, Dr Swaraj Panda, was still missing. The spouses of both doctors have been rescued.
The Wayanad landslide claimed the lives of over 150 people, with more than 100 believed to be buried underground.
Following the disappearance of the two individuals from Odisha, the state government initiated rescue operations this morning.
Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner, Satyabrat Sahu, has been in communication with his counterpart in Kerala and with Odia officials regarding the situation.
