A 76-year-old man died, and five others sustained injuries after a sudden bee attack in Jagulaipada village under Rajkanika police station.

The deceased has been identified as Bailochan Biswal.

Reports said the incident occurred yesterday afternoon when villagers gathered near a tree close to the Jagulaipada village school. A swarm of bees attacked them unexpectedly, leaving six people injured.

All victims were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Rajkanika. Bailochan, who was in critical condition, was shifted to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital and later referred to SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack. Despite treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening.

Medical Officer Jyoti Prakash Dash confirmed that the remaining five victims sustained minor to moderate injuries. Their condition is stable after receiving treatment at the CHC.

The incident has raised concerns among locals about safety in rural areas where bee colonies often thrive near schools and residential zones. Authorities are expected to take preventive measures to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
