New Delhi: A Special NIA Court here on Thursday convicted Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, a week after he pleaded guilty in a case related to terrorism and secessionist activities that disturbed the Kashmir Valley in 2017.
The NIA authorities will have to assess his financial situation and arguments on the quantum of sentence will be heard on May 25.
As per sources, Yasin Malik was asked to furnish an affidavit on his financial assets by the next date of hearing.
Earlier, the J&K separatist leader had pleaded guilty to charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Malik was charged under Section 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for the terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act), and 20 (being member of terrorist gang or organisation) of the UAPA and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He reportedly didnot objected to the charges before the court.
