Seven students from Salaguda Ashram School hostel in Phiringia block, Kandhamal district, were hospitalized after a fellow student allegedly applied Fevikwik adhesive to their eyes while they were asleep on Thursday night.
According to reports, the students had finished dinner and were resting when one of their hostel mates, seemingly premeditated, took a tube of Fevikwik and applied it to the eyes of seven sleeping students. The victims were immediately rushed to Gochhapada Medical Center and later transferred to the Sadar Sub-Divisional Hospital at Phulbani Medical College for advanced treatment.
Doctors have confirmed that the students are now showing signs of recovery, though the incident has raised serious concerns about hostel safety and supervision.
Parents and local leaders have expressed outrage, blaming the lack of regular monitoring by teachers and hostel staff. Rohit Kahanra, the local Sarpanch, alleged that teachers are not attending school regularly and that academic standards have deteriorated. He claimed to have repeatedly informed the district administration, Block Development Officer (BDO), and District Welfare Officer, but no action has been taken so far.
This shocking episode has sparked demands for a thorough investigation and stricter oversight in residential schools across the region.
