President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Arindam Sinha as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
“President is pleased to appoint Justice Arindam Sinha, Judge of the Orissa High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 20.01.2025 consequent upon retirement of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, Chief Justice, Orissa High Court on 19.01.2025,” read a notification issued by the Law Ministry.
Justice Sinha, who is currently a Judge of the High Court, will assume his new role on January 20, 2025.
Born on September 22, 1965, Justice Arindam Sinha has a distinguished career, having practised primarily before the Calcutta High Court and specializing in Civil, Commercial, Arbitration, and Constitutional laws.
He was elevated to the Calcutta High Court as an Additional Judge in 2013 and became a permanent Judge in 2016. He was transferred to the Orissa High Court in 2021.
He is currently placed at 42 in the combined seniority list of High Court Judges across the country and 7th senior-most from his parent High Court i,e, Calcutta High Court. He is set to retire on September 21, 2027.
Justice Arindam Sinha will succeed Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, who is set to retire as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on January 19, 2025.
With the retirement of Chief Justice Singh, the current strength of the Orissa High Court has decreased to 18 against the sanctioned strength of 33
The Orissa High Court today bid an emotional farewell to its 34th Chief Justice, Chakradhari Sharan Singh, who served for about eleven months.
The farewell event was presided over by Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo and attended by judges and members of the Bar.
The outgoing Chief Justice expressed his admiration for Odia culture and craftsmanship and acknowledged his shortcomings while thanking the Bar for their support.
