In a daring late-night robbery, unidentified miscreants uprooted an ATM using a JCB excavator at BTM Square in Jharsuguda.
The incident, which targeted a kiosk belonging to the Central Bank of India, has raised concerns over the increasing frequency of ATM heists in the state.
The robbers used the JCB to forcefully uproot the ATM before fleeing the scene, leaving behind a damaged kiosk. Upon receiving the alert, the Jharsuguda Sadar police launched an immediate investigation, leading to the recovery of both the stolen ATM and the JCB. However, the ATM was found in a damaged state, and the cash inside it was missing.
As part of the investigation, the police have detained the owner of the JCB for questioning to ascertain their involvement or knowledge of the crime.
This incident adds to a spate of recent ATM robberies across Odisha, including a recent breakthrough by Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police, who apprehended an inter-state gang involved in ATM thefts.
Authorities are urging citizens and financial institutions to remain vigilant as they work to address the growing concern of ATM-related crimes.
