A tragic incident involving a 15-year-old differently-abled girl in the Tirtol area of Jagatsinghpur district has led to a landmark judgment by the district’s fast-track court.
Dipu, alias Gnanaranjan Mallik, the accused in this heinous crime, was found guilty of sexually assaulting the minor on January 20, 2024.
Judge Ajay Kumar Mohanty delivered the verdict, sentencing the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹20,000.
Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional four months of jail time. Furthermore, the court has directed a compensation of ₹7 lakh to the victim, to be paid by the legal services authority.
This case was handled by special public prosecutor Dolagobinda Das, with testimonies from 14 witnesses forming the backbone of the judgment.
