The Narendra Modi government on Saturday appointed senior IPS officer Parag Jain as the next Secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), India’s external intelligence agency.
Jain, a 1989-batch officer of the Punjab cadre, will take over the post from outgoing Secretary Ravi Sinha, whose term concludes on June 30.
Currently heading the Aviation Research Centre (ARC)—a wing of R&AW—Parag Jain has been instrumental in overseeing critical intelligence operations, including ‘Operation Sindoor’, which monitored activities of the Pakistani armed forces. His vast experience in counter-terrorism, particularly in conflict-prone regions like Jammu and Kashmir, adds strategic depth to his new assignment.
Jain has also served in key positions such as SSP of Chandigarh and has represented India in diplomatic intelligence roles in Canada and Sri Lanka, showcasing his versatility and international exposure.
Ravi Sinha’s tenure, marked by a subdued profile, officially concludes this weekend. Jain will take charge on July 1 for a fixed term of two years.
His appointment signals a continuity of seasoned intelligence leadership amid ongoing regional tensions and evolving national security challenges.
