The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place from March 26 to May 31, 2026.
For the second consecutive year, the IPL will overlap with the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is scheduled from March 26 to May 3.
IPL authorities finalised the tournament window after considering the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which concludes on March 8 in Ahmedabad. Consequently, players will have more than two weeks to transition from international duties to franchise commitments. This buffer is expected to help teams manage workloads and logistics before the demanding season begins.
During the pre-auction briefing, franchises received assurance that all players signed during Tuesday’s auction will remain available for the entire IPL season, regardless of their international schedules. Moreover, this clarification proved crucial for teams monitoring overseas player availability amid a packed calendar.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are the only two nations with bilateral commitments overlapping the IPL window. However, both cricket boards assured the BCCI that their players contracted to IPL franchises will be released in full for the tournament.
As a result, franchises now have greater certainty while planning auction strategies and squad compositions. Furthermore, clarity on player availability allows teams to focus on building balanced squads without concerns over mid-season withdrawals.
The BCCI will announce the detailed IPL 2026 schedule, including venues and fixtures, at a later date.
