The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 1 witnessed a dramatic collapse as Punjab Kings (PBKS) were bundled out for just 101 runs in 14.1 overs at the New PCA Stadium, Chandigarh.
A dominant bowling display led by Josh Hazlewood, Suyash Sharma, and Romario Shepherd ensured Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) a commanding advantage as they seek a place in the IPL final.
PBKS started aggressively but soon found themselves in deep trouble, losing wickets at regular intervals. Marcus Stoinis showed brief resistance, smashing a six and a few boundaries, but his dismissal further dented Punjab’s hopes. Hazlewood spearheaded RCB’s attack, finishing with an impressive 3 wickets for 21 runs, while Suyash Sharma and Romario Shepherd added crucial breakthroughs.
Despite the toss favouring PBKS, RCB’s decision to bowl first proved wise as the pitch conditions assisted fast bowlers early on. The stadium has seen teams batting first win three out of four matches, making Punjab’s first-innings performance even more surprising.
With just 102 runs needed to seal a spot in the IPL 2025 final, RCB is in a prime position to capitalise on Punjab’s meltdown.
