New Delhi: Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the teams to have been eliminated from the edition thus far. Gujarat Titans are the only team to qualify for the playoffs and have also sealed a top-two spot with 18 points.
Here are the qualification scenarios for the remaining seven teams.
Chennai Super Kings (15 points from 13 IPL matches) need to beat Delhi Capitals (DC) in their last league stage match to assure a top-four berth, qualify for IPL 2023 Playoffs. CSK could have qualified earlier but the 4-time IPL winners lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their last league stage home game at Chepauk. If CSK loses against DC, they will find themselves in a tricky spot where they rely on other results.
Five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians (14 points from 12 IPL matches) are slated to play their last two league stage matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Winning even one game will strengthen their chances sealing a spot in IPL 2023 Playoffs. However, MI must aim to win both their remaining league stage matches to finish in top 2 in IPL 2023 Points Table. If MI loses even one game, then Chennai, Lucknow, Bangalore or Punjab must lose at least one game so that Mumbai remains in top-four.
Lucknow Super Giants (13 points from 12 IPL games) must win their remaining two matches to take their points tally to 17. If Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lose even one match their chances of making it to IPL 2023 Playoffs will depend on other results.
Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bangalore (12 points from 12 IPL matches) is in a must-win situation. They have to make sure they don’t lose in their last two matches to advance to IPL 2023 Playoffs. RCB is slated to square off against Sunrisers Hyderabad and this clash could prove to be a die-or-die contest for the Bangalore-based franchise.
Rajasthan Royals (12 points from 13 games, NRR: 0.140) had an impressive start to their IPL 2023 campaign but due to a sudden dip in form and back-to-back losses, their chances of qualifying for IPL 2023 Playoffs are very slim. RR, last year’s finalists, need to beat Punjab Kings in their last league stage match. Even if RR wins their last game, their chances for a Playoffs spot depend on other teams. Two of Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants or Royal Challengers Bangalore must lose both of their remaining matches for RR to qualify for IPL 2023 Playoffs.
Kolkata Knight Riders (12 points from 13 IPL games) will lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants in their last league stage match. If two-time IPL winner KKR loses against LSG, they will be knocked out of the tournament. However, a win over LSG doesn’t guarantee them a place in IPL 2023 Playoffs. They need other results to go in their favour.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals have been officially knocked out of IPL 2023.
