A Goa-bound IndiGo flight (6E-6271) from Delhi made an emergency landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Wednesday night after reportedly developing a mid-air engine failure.
The flight, operated with an Airbus A320neo, landed safely in Mumbai at 9:52 PM, according to sources.
“Full emergency was declared for IndiGo flight 6E-6271, operating on the Delhi-Goa route, after it was diverted to Mumbai due to one engine failure,” a source confirmed.
In an official statement, IndiGo described the situation as a “technical snag”, which prompted the aircraft to be diverted as a precautionary measure.
“A technical snag was detected on flight 6E 6271 while flying from Delhi to Manohar International Airport, Goa, on July 16. Following procedures, the aircraft was diverted and landed safely in Mumbai,” said an IndiGo spokesperson.
While the airline did not disclose the number of passengers on board or the exact nature of the engine fault, it confirmed that all necessary maintenance checks will be conducted before the aircraft resumes service.
“An alternative aircraft has been arranged to complete the journey,” the spokesperson added.
No injuries or damage were reported. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to be informed for further investigation, as per standard aviation protocols.
