The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed the announcement of India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 due to extreme weather conditions in Mumbai.
India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav and men’s selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar were scheduled to unveil the squad at a press conference at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai at 1:30 pm IST on Tuesday (August 19). However, relentless rains, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions forced a last-minute delay.
A message sent by the BCCI media manager to the official press WhatsApp group at 11:02 am confirmed the postponement. “Kindly note that the first press conference is expected to be delayed owing to weather disruptions,” the message read.
Hindustan Times has learnt that the delay is indefinite, and there remains a possibility of shifting the squad announcement to another date.
The India Women’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, originally set to be revealed at 3:30 pm today, is also likely to face a similar postponement.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Mumbai and suburbs. In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ordered the closure of all government, semi-government, and municipal offices, excluding essential services. Private organizations have also been urged to allow employees to work from home.
The city continues to experience widespread waterlogging, traffic chaos, and gusty winds reaching up to 55 kmph, raising public safety concerns.
The revised date for India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad announcement will be shared once weather conditions stabilize.
