A 37-year-old Indian-origin man, Chandan Kumar, was killed in a targeted shooting in Toronto on February 7.
Police said unidentified assailants opened fire on the vehicle he was travelling in at a shopping centre car park.
Kumar, originally from Bengaluru Rural district in Karnataka, had been living in Canada for six years and worked as an IT professional. His father, Nandakumar, is a retired schoolteacher.
Responding officers found Kumar with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Images from the scene showed a white SUV with bullet holes in the windshield and a shattered driver-side window, suggesting he was ambushed while inside the vehicle.
Toronto Police Inspector Errol Watson confirmed the attack appeared targeted, though investigators are still piecing together details, including the number of suspects and shots fired.
This incident comes just days after another Indian-origin man, 28, was killed in a targeted shooting in Burnaby, British Columbia, believed to be linked to the ongoing BC gang conflict. Kumar’s death marks Toronto’s third homicide of 2026.
Police have appealed for public assistance, urging anyone with information, dashcam footage, or surveillance video to come forward.
