Indian and Pakistani Troops Exchange Fire Along LoC in Keran Sector of Kashmir

Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district during the intervening night of January 20 and 21, defence sources said on Tuesday.

According to officials, the brief exchange occurred when personnel from the 6 Rashtriya Rifles were installing high-tech surveillance cameras in the Keran Bala area as part of efforts to strengthen border security and eliminate blind spots along the LoC.

Pakistani troops allegedly fired two rounds of small arms fire in an attempt to disrupt the installation work. Indian forces responded with a single, calibrated retaliatory shot, following standard operating procedures.

No casualties were reported on either side. However, suspecting that the firing may have been intended to divert attention for a possible infiltration attempt, the Indian Army launched a cordon and search operation in the surrounding forested terrain.

Security has since been tightened across the sector, with forces continuing to enhance technical surveillance along traditional infiltration routes, particularly during the winter months when movement across the LoC is considered more likely.
