India on Tuesday successfully tested ‘Bhargavastra’, an indigenous low-cost counter-drone system designed for hard kill operations, at the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur, Odisha. The trial comes just days after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire following a tense four-day conflict.
Developed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL), Bhargavastra represents a significant advancement in India’s capability to combat the growing threat of drone swarms. The system utilizes micro rockets to intercept and destroy enemy drones.
According to reports from ANI, three successful trials were conducted on May 13 in the presence of senior officials from the Army Air Defence (AAD). Two tests involved firing single rockets, while the third involved a salvo of two rockets launched within two seconds. All rockets met the desired launch parameters and performance benchmarks.
The successful testing underscores India’s progress in developing cost-effective and domestically built defense technologies aimed at strengthening homeland security against evolving aerial threats.
