India’s men’s hockey team crushed Canada 14-3 in its final round-robin match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025 in Ipoh, Malaysia, on Saturday.
With this massive victory, India secured a top-two finish and booked its place in Sunday’s final.
Defender Jugraj Singh led the scoring spree with four goals. He converted three penalty corners and added one from a penalty stroke. Abhishek, Amit Rohidas, and Rajinder Singh struck twice each, while Selvam Karthi, Nilakanta Sharma, Sanjay, and Dilpreet Singh contributed one goal apiece.
The result guaranteed India a spot in the final regardless of other outcomes later in the day. Moreover, Craig Fulton’s side will face Belgium, the team that inflicted India’s only defeat in the round-robin stage.
Belgium strengthened its position by defeating New Zealand 5-1 later on Saturday. With four wins and a draw, Belgium topped the points table and set up a high-voltage clash against India in the title decider.
