India and Singapore have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to collaborate on maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation projects.
The LOI was signed by the Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, Mr Teo Eng Dih, and Joint Secretary of India’s Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri R. Lakshmanan. This initiative was witnessed by notable ministers, including Dr Amy Khor and Shri Sarbananda Sonowal.
The two nations aim to establish the Singapore-India Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC), which will foster advancements in zero or near-zero Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission technologies and promote the adoption of digital solutions in shipping. With India’s prowess in information technology and potential to become a leading producer/exporter of green marine fuels, and Singapore’s role as a transhipment hub, the collaboration is expected to drive innovation in the maritime sector.
The Singapore-India GDSC, when established, will enhance collaboration from both countries and help accelerate the development and uptake of zero or near-zero Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission technologies and the adoption of digital solutions.
