India made a remarkable debut at the World Boxing Cup 2025, held in Foz Do Iguacu, Brazil, bringing home an impressive haul of six medals, including a historic gold.
This marks the first-ever appearance of the Indian boxing team in the prestigious international tournament.
Leading the pack was Hitesh, who clinched gold in the 70kg category, becoming the first Indian boxer to achieve this feat in the World Boxing Cup. His opponent, Odel Kamara from England, was unable to compete in the final due to an injury.
Abhinash Jamwal added a silver medal to India’s tally after a hard-fought match against Brazil’s Yuri Reis in the 65kg final. Additionally, four Indian boxers – Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50kg), Manish Rathore (55kg), Sachin (60kg), and Vishal (90kg) – claimed bronze medals in their respective categories.
Hitesh credited the team’s success to the 10-day preparatory camp in Brazil, which provided crucial tactical training. “This tournament has given us fantastic exposure at the highest level. I am proud to bring home the gold,” he said.
India fielded a 10-member team for the tournament, which also marked the country’s first international boxing event since the Paris Olympics. The performance reflects India’s growing prominence on the global boxing stage.
