Johannesburg: Team India delivered a historic performance at the DP World Wanderers Stadium, clinching a 3-1 T20 series win against South Africa with a commanding 135-run victory in the fourth and final match.
This match saw India setting multiple records, thanks to the stellar performances of Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson.
Batting first, India posted a record-breaking total of 283 for 1, the highest T20I score on South African soil and the second-highest ever for India in T20Is1. Tilak Varma dazzled with an unbeaten 120 off 47 balls, while Sanju Samson contributed a scintillating 109 not out off 56 balls1. Their partnership of 210 runs is now the highest-ever for India for any wicket in T20Is.
India’s innings was marked by an astonishing 23 sixes, setting a new record for the most sixes in a T20I innings between two full-member nations.This explosive batting display left South Africa with a daunting target, which they failed to chase, managing only 148 all out.
This victory not only secured the series for India but also marked South Africa’s biggest defeat in T20Is, with a margin of 135 runs2. Varun Chakravarthy’s exceptional bowling throughout the series earned him the record for the most wickets in a bilateral T20I series for India, with 12 wickets.
The match also saw several individual milestones. Sanju Samson became the first player to score three T20I hundreds in a calendar year, while Tilak Varma became the second Indian to score back-to-back centuries in T20Is.
