The Union Ministry of Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development convened the ‘National Agriculture Conference – Rabi Abhiyan 2025’ in Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The two-day event marked a strategic shift in India’s agricultural planning, setting a record foodgrain production target of 362.50 million tonnes for the 2025–26 crop year.
Addressing the media, Shri Chouhan highlighted India’s achievement of 353.96 million tonnes in 2024–25, surpassing last year’s target by 12.41 million tonnes. He credited coordinated efforts between the Centre and States for the success and emphasized the conference’s theme: “One Nation – One Agriculture – One Team.”
The conference featured six thematic group discussions focused on climate resilience, quality agro-inputs, horticulture, natural farming, extension services, and scheme coordination. A key outcome was the decision to finalize State/UT-specific roadmaps through dedicated workshops, especially to boost productivity in pulses and oilseeds.
Shri Chouhan also announced the launch of the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ from October 3, mobilizing over 2,000 expert teams to guide farmers directly in villages. He assured adequate seed and fertiliser availability, noting that 25 million metric tonnes of seed are already in stock against a requirement of 22.9 million tonnes.
The Minister pledged continued support to flood-affected States including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Assam, and Haryana, ensuring timely disbursal of crop insurance under PMFBY.
The conference concluded with a strong message against counterfeit agro-inputs, with the Centre and States vowing strict action. Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi and ICAR Director General Dr. M. L. Jat were among the dignitaries present.
