In a proactive move to support exporters and businesses amid evolving international trade dynamics, the Indian government has announced the establishment of a Global Tariff and Trade Helpdesk.
This initiative is aimed at assisting industry stakeholders in navigating complex trade regulations, tariff changes, and emerging challenges in global commerce.
The helpdesk, spearheaded by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, will act as a centralised knowledge and support centre for exporters, importers, and trade associations. It will provide real-time information on tariff structures, trade agreements, non-tariff barriers, and recent policy developments across key global markets.
Officials said the helpdesk is part of a broader strategy to empower Indian businesses as they respond to global shifts, including geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions, and the introduction of new trade standards.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said, “As the global trade landscape becomes increasingly unpredictable, we need to equip our exporters and trade partners with accurate, timely, and strategic guidance. This helpdesk will be a one-stop solution for all queries related to tariffs and trade compliance.”
The helpdesk will also offer personalised support through expert consultations, and digital tools for market research, helping businesses tap into new opportunities and adapt to market-specific regulations.
Industry bodies and Export Promotion Councils have welcomed the initiative, calling it a much-needed step to enhance trade preparedness and resilience, especially for small and medium enterprises.
The helpdesk is expected to be fully operational in the coming months and will be accessible both online and through regional trade offices.
