New Delhi:Â India has achieved a significant milestone in the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, with premier institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi securing top spots among international competitors.
India is now the most represented country, with 65 universities featured in the rankings.
Anna University has attained the highest rank among Indian institutions in the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, placing 42nd globally. Following closely are VIT University at 65th and the SRM Institute of Science and Technology at 84th.
The rankings, published by Times Higher Education (THE), highlight the importance of integrating various academic fields to tackle global issues such as climate change, health emergencies, and technological advancements.
The first edition of the list evaluated 749 universities from 92 countries, focusing on research output, academic reputation, and the ability to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration as the main indicators.

India has strengthened its position in the 2025 Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, with 65 universities featured. Lovely Professional University achieved the 99th rank, Amity University (Noida) the 101st, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences the 102nd, Jamia Millia Islamia the 103rd, and Jawaharlal Nehru University the 105th.
Other institutions such as Sharda University, Panjab University, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education also received recognition for their contributions.
Globally, the United States continued to lead with top institutions like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford University, securing the first and second positions, respectively.
Singapore was the only Asian country in the top 10, with the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University in 3rd and 9th places, respectively.
Asia was the most represented continent in the top 100, with 47 universities from 15 countries. India and Saudi Arabia were at the forefront with six institutions each, followed by Hong Kong and Japan with five universities each. The University of Hong Kong at 13th and China’s Fudan University at 16th are worthy of mention.
