India U19 Reign Supreme: SAFF U19 Champions Again!

The Indian U19 football team successfully defended their SAFF U19 Championship title, defeating Bangladesh in a nerve-racking penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Golden Jubilee Stadium.

The highly anticipated final began with India taking the lead just two minutes into the game, courtesy of a stunning free-kick from captain Singamayum Shami. Bangladesh fought back relentlessly, equalizing in the 61st minute through Md Joy Ahamed, setting up a dramatic finish.

With tensions running high, both teams battled for a winner but ultimately took the contest to penalties. India, initially faltering with a missed attempt, regained composure as Suraj Singh Aheibam made a crucial save and Bangladesh’s captain missed a vital shot. Seizing the moment, Shami calmly converted the final penalty, securing India’s 4-3 victory.

The triumph was accompanied by individual honors—Danny Meitei Laishram emerged as the tournament’s highest goal-scorer with five goals, Suraj Singh Aheibam was named Best Goalkeeper, and Md Arbash earned the Most Valuable Player award. India also took home the Fair Play Award, showcasing their commendable sportsmanship.

With this victory, India reaffirms its dominance in South Asian youth football, celebrating yet another glorious chapter in their sporting journey.
