In a dramatic start to the ODI series between India and England, disciplinary actions followed a tightly contested match. Indian opener Pratika Rawal was fined 10% of her match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI.
The infractions included avoidable physical contact with England bowlers Lauren Filer and Sophie Ecclestone in consecutive overs.
Rawal’s actions earned her one demerit point, marking her first offence in a 24-month period. The incident occurred during India’s chase of England’s competitive 258/6, which featured standout performances from Sophia Dunkley (83) and Alice Davidson-Richards (50).
India’s response was shaky at 124/4, but Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten 62, supported by Jemimah Rodrigues (48) and Amanjot Kaur (20*), steered the visitors to a hard-fought victory.
Meanwhile, England were fined 5% of their match fees for maintaining a slow over rate, falling one over short after time allowances. The sanctions were accepted by Rawal and England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, negating the need for a formal hearing.
The series continues with heightened intensity as both teams aim to balance performance with discipline.
