India has officially welcomed the high-profile Alaska Summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling their leadership “highly commendable” in the pursuit of peace.
The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement praising the summit’s progress and reaffirming India’s long-standing position that diplomacy is the only viable path to resolving the Ukraine conflict.
“The way forward can only be through dialogue and diplomacy. The world wants to see an early end to the conflict in Ukraine,” the ministry stated.

The summit, held in Anchorage, Alaska, lasted nearly three hours and, while productive, did not result in a ceasefire or peace agreement. President Trump rated the meeting a “10/10” and emphasised that “there’s no deal until there’s a deal,” signalling ongoing negotiations.
In a move seen as a relief for India, Trump indicated he is not immediately considering secondary sanctions on Russia or its trade partners, though he may revisit the issue in the coming weeks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded positively, expressing readiness for “constructive cooperation” and noting that President Putin prefers a comprehensive peace deal over a temporary ceasefire.
India’s endorsement of the summit underscores its commitment to global stability and its strategic interest in avoiding economic fallout from extended sanctions.
