The district administration of Puri demolished a two-storey farmhouse built unlawfully on 30 decimals of land in Chilika near Biripadar village under Krushna Prasad block.
The farmhouse, constructed by Akshay Tarei of Badjhada village, had stood for five years despite repeated complaints and two official notices issued in 2022 and 2024 by the Krushna Prasad tehsil. Locals alleged that the structure was protected under political patronage and used for party meetings and private gatherings.
Following the formation of the new state government, a statewide campaign to remove unauthorized constructions gained momentum. Acting on the Collector’s directive, the demolition was carried out on plot number 102, khata number 29, using three bulldozers and a team of laborers.
To maintain law and order, five platoons of male and female police personnel, one Additional SP, two DSPs, and four Inspectors were deployed. The operation was supervised by Magistrate Sarat Chandra Dehuri, Tehsildar Bikash Sethi, and SDPO Bhabagrahi Rout.
Public access to the site was restricted during the demolition to prevent disturbances. The move has been welcomed by environmental activists and locals who had long demanded action against encroachments in the ecologically sensitive Chilika region.
