To encourage swimmers on campus and provide a facility for practice, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar has inaugurated its much-anticipated, state-of-the-art swimming pool on February 22, 2025.
The inauguration was conducted by Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, the Director of the Institute, in the presence of Shri Bamadev Acharya, the Registrar; Prof. Sarat Kumar Panda, the Chairman of Infrastructure; and Dr Kodandaram Mangipudi, the President of the Student Gymkhana.
To celebrate the opening, a “Grand Splash” event was organised, where students, faculty members, employees, and campus residents enjoyed a fun-filled “Dive-Jump-Splash” moment together. Director Prof. Karmalkar also participated in the event to encourage everyone.
It is important to note that the swimming pool at IIT Bhubaneswar meets international standards, featuring a minimum depth of 1.8 meters and a maximum depth of 5 meters. The pool measures 50 meters in length and 25 meters in width. A professional swimming instructor, along with lifeguards, has been assigned to ensure safe training and practice for the swimmers at the Institute.
