IIT Bhubaneswar and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), through its National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 17, 2025, to promote collaborative research and development.

The announcement was made public on January 24, 2025.

This strategic partnership aims to assess physical and biogeochemical oceanic processes and monitor shoreline change dynamics along the western Bay of Bengal. During the pilot phase, researchers will map and analyze nearshore dynamics from the Sundarbans delta to northern Andhra Pradesh. The collaboration may expand to other Indian coastal regions under a future MoU.

Dr. S. K. Srivastav, Chief General Manager of NRSC, signed the MoU on behalf of ISRO, while Prof. P. Dinakar, Dean of Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy, represented IIT Bhubaneswar. The signing ceremony included key attendees such as Prof. C. N. Bhende (Dean of Post Graduate and Research Programs), Dr. R. K. Singh (Head of the School of Earth, Ocean and Climate Sciences), faculty collaborators, and senior ISRO officials.

This initiative reflects a growing synergy between academic institutions and national research bodies to address climate change, coastal erosion, and marine ecosystem challenges through data-driven science and innovation.
