The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the largest accountancy body in the world, has appointed Charanjot Singh Nanda as its new President for the term 2025-26.
Nanda, who previously served as the Vice-President of ICAI, was elected as the 73rd President during a meeting of the Central Council in New Delhi.
D Prasanna Kumar, a Chartered Accountant from Andhra Pradesh, has been chosen as the Vice-President. The leadership transition saw CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal handing over the President role to CA Charanjot Singh Nanda, while CA Charanjot Singh Nanda passed the Vice-President role to CA Prasanna Kumar D.
Nanda, who ranked 35th in the CA Inter Examination, became a Chartered Accountant in 1991. He has held several leadership positions within ICAI, including serving as the Chairman of the Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) for the term 2002-03. Throughout his career, Nanda has chaired various significant committees, including the Internal Audit Standards Board, the Committee for Members in Industry, and the Women Members Empowerment Committee. His leadership has been pivotal in introducing new standards for internal audits and fostering dialogue between the Institute and Chartered Accountants working in industries.
Nanda has also represented ICAI on various government bodies and regulatory agencies, including the Quality Review Board and SEBI Advisory Committees. Additionally, he has been an active member of international platforms, such as the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA).
Nanda completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree from M.L.N. College in 1987 and graduated from Kurukshetra University. The oath of office was administered by Arjun Ram Meghwal, who is currently serving as the Minister of State for Law and Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
