Berhampur: A huge banded krait (Ahiraj) snake was rescued from a house at Gurujhari village in Ganjam district this morning.
According to sources, the matter came to light after one Dhanurdhar Mohanty of Gurujhari village under Khallikote forest range, spotted the snake in a hole on the wall of his bedroom and alerted the same to the Snake Helpline.
Snake Helpline members reached the house and brought it out of the hole. Later, they put it in a bag and released it in a forest in the presence of Forest officials.
The common krait, also known as Indian krait or blue krait, is a species of highly-venomous snake found on the Indian subcontinent. It is a member of the ‘big four’ species, inflicting the most snakebites on humans in Bangladesh and India.
