The Orissa High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Subarnapur district and other concerned authorities over alleged irregularities in the recruitment of Home Guards.
The notices were issued while hearing a petition that challenged the legality, transparency, and fairness of the Home Guard recruitment process conducted in Subarnapur district.
Allegations of Irregularities in Recruitment
According to the petition, multiple irregularities were allegedly committed during the selection process, raising serious concerns about compliance with prescribed recruitment norms. The recruitment drive was carried out pursuant to an official notification for the selection of 92 Home Guards across Subarnapur district.
The petitioners alleged that candidates from outside designated police station jurisdictions were appointed under the Subarnapur police station, which they claimed was a direct violation of recruitment guidelines. This reportedly led to resentment among local aspirants, who contended that eligible and deserving candidates from within the concerned jurisdictions were overlooked.
High Court Seeks Clarification
Taking note of the allegations, the High Court observed that the validity of the recruitment process would be subject to the outcome of the case. The court has sought detailed responses from the SP and other officials named in the petition, directing them to clarify their position on the issues raised.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on February 23. Until then, uncertainty remains over the continuation of the recruitment process and the appointments made under it.
The case is expected to have significant implications for the recruitment of Home Guards in the district, with further developments awaited as the proceedings continue.
