Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Saturday announced abolition of contractual recruitment system after the State Cabinet ratified a proposal to this effect.
CM Naveen Patnaik made the historic announcement on the eve of his birthday. Announcing the end of such system, Patnaik said that the government decision will benefit over 57,000 contractual employees. It will entail ₹1,300 crore.
“The era of contractual recruitment has ended today. All contractual employees will be regularized. I was waiting eagerly for this day. A notification in this regard will be issued tomorrow. Over 57,000 contractual employees will be regularized for which the government will bear an additional burden of Rs 1300 crore,” the CM said.

The contractual recruitment system started in 2013. “It was, too, a difficult decision for me. Now our economy has improved significantly. Odisha has created a new identity for itself in the field of development in the country. Last year, we substituted the contractual recruitment posts with initial appointee,” he added.
This decision brings early Diwali for their family members, Patnaik maintained.
