In a significant move to enhance security ahead of the grand Rath Yatra festival, the Puri Police have deployed the armoured vehicle ‘Raksaka’ at the revered Shree Jagannath Temple.
As millions of devotees prepare to converge for the annual chariot festival, authorities aim to ensure stringent protection measures to counter potential threats.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology, ‘Raksaka’ boasts bulletproof armour, roof-mounted light machine guns, and modern surveillance tools. Designed for high-risk urban operations, it offers a crucial safeguard against artillery fire and explosive attacks. Special Tactical Unit (STU) commandos, trained in urban warfare, will operate the vehicle throughout the festival, ensuring seamless security coordination.
Officials highlight that the vehicle features reinforced glass and armoured steel capable of withstanding AK-47 rounds, alongside a ballistic carpet to mitigate shrapnel impact. Additionally, advanced rear-mounted camera systems will provide live monitoring, enabling rapid response to emergencies.
The deployment of ‘Raksaka’ underscores the commitment of Odisha’s security forces to maintaining a safe and peaceful environment during the religious festivities.
