The Hockey India League (HIL) 2025-26 will once again feature star drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh and ace goalkeeper Savita Punia as leaders of the Soorma Hockey Club (SHC) men’s and women’s teams.
Midfielder Salima Tete has been named co-captain of the women’s side.
To begin, Harmanpreet’s command in defence and his lethal drag-flicking ability continue to be the men’s team’s biggest strengths. His leadership guided SHC to a third-place finish last season. “It’s always a special feeling to lead this team. Last season’s third-place finish showed what we’re capable of, and we’ve taken a lot of confidence from that. I believe we have the right mix to challenge the best,” Harmanpreet said.
Next, Savita Punia’s sharp reflexes and calm presence, combined with Salima’s agility and creativity, form the backbone of the women’s team. The duo played a crucial role in securing a runners-up finish last season. “Salima and I bring different strengths to the table, but we’re united by the same purpose: to lead this team with clarity, trust, and belief,” Savita remarked. Salima added, “Sharing the captaincy with someone like Savita is truly special for me. Her experience and the standards she set push all of us to be better every day. We know what it takes to go all the way now, and we’re determined to take that final step and bring the trophy home this season.”
Furthermore, the women’s team will launch its campaign on December 29 against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers in Ranchi, while the men’s team will face the same opponent on January 4 in Chennai.
Finally, with both squads determined to build on last season’s success, SHC enters the new campaign with confidence and a clear goal: to bring home the HIL trophy.
