After a shaky start at the Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz leg of the Grand Chess Tour, Indian Grandmaster D. Gukesh has surged to third place with four points after three rounds.
Despite an opening-round loss to GM Levon Aronian, Gukesh bounced back with decisive wins over GM Grigoriy Oparin and GM Liem Le.
The Rapid section follows a single round-robin format among ten players, awarding two points for a win and one for a draw. Aronian currently leads with six points, followed by GM Fabiano Caruana with five. Gukesh is set to face GM Sam Shankland in the fourth round.
This event marks the final rapid-and-blitz tournament of the 2025 Grand Chess Tour season. Following the Rapid rounds, players will compete in a double round-robin Blitz format, with the overall champion determined by cumulative points across both formats.
