Rourkela: The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Rourkela on Thursday confiscated over 60 kilograms of silver ornaments and arrested one person in this connection.
The accused has been identified as Chandan Kumar. He was detained for the illegal transport of silver and subsequently turned over to the GST department for further inquiry after failing to provide adequate explanations.
It was reported that the individual was travelling from Agra to Ranchi in Jharkhand and had briefly stopped in Rourkela.
During the initial investigation by the GST department, the individual insisted that the silver ornaments were for personal use and were acquired from legitimate sources.
A senior GST official reported that Chandan Kumar claimed the purchase of approximately 51 kilograms of silver in Agra, presenting invoices as proof.
However, during his stop in Rourkela, he allegedly bought an additional 10 kilograms of silver biscuits without providing an invoice for this purchase, according to the official.
The invoices presented by the individual contain inconsistencies, prompting a comprehensive investigation to determine the authenticity of the documents.
