A violent group clash erupted in the Chintamaniswar Talasahi area under Laxmisagar, Bhubaneswar, when more than 15 miscreants attacked two local youths and left them critically injured.

Authorities rushed the victims to Capital Hospital, where doctors reported their condition as serious.

Background of Tensions

According to preliminary police information, the assault stemmed from previous enmity. Moreover, this marks the second violent incident in the locality within two days, raising concerns about the growing audacity of criminals during the New Year period when vigilance is expected to be high.

The attack occurred near Champa Pokhari (pond), where the youths were sitting and chatting. Tensions had already been simmering due to disputes involving local anti-social elements who frequently loitered near the pond. Earlier in the evening, miscreants allegedly assaulted a temple priest at a nearby shrine, which further inflamed community anger.

Escalation of Violence

When the group returned later, the priest alerted locals, and the situation escalated. Out of 7–8 individuals involved, two youths fell into the attackers’ hands. The miscreants then brutally beat them. Although police have not yet confirmed the exact weapons used, investigators believe sharp objects may have been involved.

Police Response

Laxmisagar police reached the spot promptly and launched an investigation. Furthermore, they initiated raids to identify and apprehend the assailants. Authorities also intensified patrolling in the area to maintain law and order amid rising tension among residents.

Community Reaction

Local residents expressed deep concern and outrage over recurring violence around the pond, which has now taken the form of gang clashes. While some attempted to give the incident a communal angle, police clarified that they are treating it as a case of longstanding rivalry and enmity.

Past Incidents and Demands

Group clashes are not new to Laxmisagar and the surrounding areas, where previous gang fights and attacks have been reported. Consequently, locals are demanding swift police action and stringent punishment for the perpetrators.

The Commissionerate Police have yet to release further details. However, authorities assured that strict security measures are in place to prevent any further escalation.
